Newsletter- Room 3

This week we discussed more about where pumpkins grow, and continued discussing the life cycle of the pumpkin and how pumpkins are consumed.  We painted a look-a-like pumpkin that was made with cardboard type material and we discussed that the lines on the pumpkin are called the ribs.  There are indented ridges running from top to bottom.   Sometimes, they are shallow. Sometimes, they are very deep.  Then everyday the children had a chance on the easel to draw everything that they noticed about  pumpkins.

Our Chapter book The Mouse and the Motorcycle is coming to an end this coming week.  In this chapter the children are anxious to find out if Ralph can get the aspirin to Keith.  The children are excited to watch the Movie version of our book.  We will then compare and contrast the book to the movie.

On Friday we went to the Library, walked around and read the book, 10 Busy Brooms by: Carole Gerber    It was about ten little witches flying around in the night.  We also went to the bank.  We counted our money in class, and then each child that has a bank account had their bank slips and there money to give to the teller and then received a bank deposit slip.  Most of the children have bank accounts, if your child does not have a bank account there is still time to open an account so your child can participate every Friday going to the bank.

Other news in our classroom:   Starting Friday October 25  one child will be picked to gather 5 items in a bag that tell something important about them. That way each child can share and learn more about each other.

We have also been working on filling our bucket in class. Reminding each other to help and encourage positive behavior, to have kindness and consideration and support for our class and not being a bucket dipper that make others feel bad.  So encourage your child everyday to be a bucket filler and do nice things for other people not just in school.

This week we read:  Pumpkin Jack by: Will Hubbell                                                                                                                                                             Tim’s pumpkin after Halloween decomposes in his backyard and eventually grows new pumpkins.                                      The  Biggest Pumpkin Ever  by: Steven Kroll                                                                                                                                 Desmond and Clayton  must work together to win the Biggest pumpkin Competition.                                                               Lonely Scarecrow by: Tim Preston                                                                                                                                                     The Scarecrow more than anything wants to be friends with all the animals in the fields.                                                           The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything  by:  Linda Williams                                                                   A little old lady who is not afraid of anything! But heard many sounds walking through the woods.                                       The Runaway Pumpkin by:  Kevin Lewis                                                                                                                                         The children try to roll the pumpkin down the hill to show everyone, but it’s too big.

Have a great weekend!!!

Sincerely,

Ms. Demetra
