Dear Parents,
Wow, We have been busy!! This is a recap of the weeks past and wanted to share all that we do.
We finished off the week strong we added the Puppet theater to our class this week. Our class worked together in groups on writing out the script and then practicing together on what to say in the play before performing it in front of the whole class. This showed the students that it does take prep work to put together lines to be said and time to work together as a group.

Thank you to our amazing school and our children for doing such an awesome job on the March 25th Friday program!!

The children picked the next Novel Study in the series of Zoey and Sassafras Dragon and Marshmallows by Asia Citro. Zoey is left in charge while her Mom is at a conference to take care of the magical animals that appear in the barn when they are sick or something is wrong. Which animal is Zoey taking care of ask your child? (A dragon) What does Zoey feed the dragon? (Marshmallows) Does the dragon get better? (Not yet anyways). What does the term, He was like a block of ice! What did they use for the reptile to give him heat? (They used a heater).
*I am sure you heard all about the leprechaun in our classroom on Thursday. The Leprechaun made a mess and spread glitter all over our classroom. It gave us an opportunity to talk about the myth of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The children drew pictures, some used watercolors to make their rainbows, and shared what they would find at the end of their rainbow. We also watched a video about rainbows and we did the rainbow dance.

*The other day we talked about Pi day and watch a short video What is Pi day? Does it work for all circles? Yes! In the video, they talked about how to measure a large pizza and two smaller pizzas to see if you’re getting a good deal on one or two pizzas. See if they remember the number of Pi!
*On March 10th we all celebrated the return of Leo and Ms. Maria and St. Baldricks!! What a special day!!! We had six out of twelve participate from our class in this event. Whoo hoo!!

*On March 8th we had the pleasure of Kreeshiv and his family sharing books on Holi day and the video. Since we couldn’t share in the tradition of throwing colored flour at people we made Perler beads instead which are so colorful. Thank you for bringing in books and sharing this tradition.

*For the month of March, we talked about Women’s History we started reading about Sally Ride the first American woman to fly in space. A fun fact that connected with Jackie Robinson’s book was that she always wanted to play for the Dodgers.
*For the month of February, we learned more about black history month: Our main focus was Ruby Bridges from Norman Rockwell painting and we learn that Ruby was six and the first African- American child to go to an all-white school in Louisiana in 1960. We also read a book about Jackie Robinson A Life of Courage was an American professional baseball player who became the first African American to play in Major League. Jackie Robinson played for the Dodgers. Our class really enjoyed learning about their lives and how they got there.
*Also talked about Dental Health Month and we talked about brushing your teeth, we saw a video and hopefully they are using the chart to track their cleaning. We also watched a video on weird animal teeth on youtube.
*We had the pleasure of attending Elephant and Piggie’s “We are in a Play!!” at the Prairie Lakes Theater. The children couldn’t stop laughing and joined in the fun with the actors. What a great play!!

*We also celebrated Tasi’s birthday and Mom and Dad came to read a book to the class. Tasi was definitely surprised! Thank you as always such a special treat for all.

* In Math we have been focusing on learning how to compare numbers using the symbols for greater than, less than, and equal. They continue to work on adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. Using tally markers, how many in their own picture and using tally markers and totaling up the answer. We also continue playing board games, dice games, card games, and group games.

*We continue to work on our Journal writing, and sight words, including trying to write full sentences using capital letters and ending punctuation.
The last thing I want to include is that we are almost at 1,000 books read by our class!! Please continue to read, and play games at home and also encourage your child to write notes to you or to others.
Have a wonderful Spring Break!!
