Dear Parents,
We have been busy and learning so many new things!
We started Heather Alexander’s new book Wallace and Grace Take the Case. Along with the book, we have been watching videos on Owls and learning more about the characteristics of owls. In Wallace and GraceTake the Case
The children continue to work on the new word family -ad. Focusing on -ad word families can really help with phonics and vocabulary. Every day the children write two words in their word family book and write them down, here are a few that we worked on this week: mad, had, bad, dad, pad, sad. I am sending home with each child a list of the -at word family. Please review them with your child. You can make a memory game using index cards or have a scavenger hunt with the words hidden around your house. Have fun!

In math, we have been working on even and Odd, addition and subtraction, and putting numbers in order from 1 to 9 and 10 to 18. The class enjoys the math game that looks like a tic-tac-toe board.

This week, our All About Me student was Klia, who brought in five items representing her. She placed her Daddy/Daughter dance picture on our door and was very proud of her picture.

Last week, our All About Me student was Samuel, who brought in five items and his favorite book, which we read and shared with the class. His favorites were his little pumpkin and his rainbow dog.

Once a week, we will discuss a bird and learn more about individual birds and the birds each group is studying. This week, our featured bird was the golden finch.
The children saw the play Alice in Wonderland. The play’s whimsical characters and imaginative settings sparked their creativity and encouraged discussions about it when we got back to school. Ask your child what they like most about the play.

The firefighters came to talk about fire safety with our school. The children had the opportunity to go outside and view the fire truck and see all the compartments that keep all the tools they need to assist them in a fire. Ask your child what was something they learned?

Also, please read the books in the bag that are sent home. I read them again with the students when they bring them back. Encouraging a reading culture at home can significantly enrich a child’s development and cultivating a love for reading early can lead to a lifelong habit.
Make sure to send your child with a jacket for outdoor recess every day, as it can get chilly!
Have a great long weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Demetra
